Monitoring of Distant Islands
Once a year, or once every two years, monitoring campaigns are organized at the heart of the Natural Park.
A mission on the d'Entrecasteaux atolls takes place in December, and another one is organized on the Chesterfield plateau in January. Walpole, Matthew and Hunter are also among the visited islands.
Thanks to this regular monitoring, specialists are able to collect data to better understand the geological evolution of distant islands and their existing biodiversity: sea birds, fishes, turtles, and invasive species.
